ASUS ZenFone Update Errors!!! Follow this for Recovery
www.ASUS.com - When updating your ZenFone, sometimes you might face some recovery errors that will stop you from updating the device. Luckily, the recovery mode gives us some hints in cases when you are stuck on FOTA. Those messages are usually accompanied with an Android with open belly with red exclamation sign on top of it. Heres some info about the most common recovery errors that can help you resolve the issue.
Status 2 Error
Failed to verify whole-file signature from /cache/update.zip; Signature verification failed
Its very unlikely that you will receive this kind of FOTA error, but in case you do, this means that the downloaded FOTA update or firmware zip file is corrupted and cannot be used to update or reflash your device.
Solution: Re-download FOTA or firmware zip fil
Failed to open /cache/update.zip; Signature verification failed
This is a weird one. It means the recovery is being fooled that the update is fully downloaded and the update can begin, wherein reality, the file hasnt been downloaded completely. This is usually caused by the download being stopped when using unstable internet connection.
Solution: Use stable connection
Status 1/7 Error
Assert failed: file_getprop; Error in /cache/update.zip
This usually happens when you manually install incremental FOTA updates. Make sure you have the right FOTA zip file for the firmware you are upgrading. Refer to the FOTA release notes for more info.
Solution: Download the correct FOTA file
Assert failed: apply_patch_check; Error in /cache/update.zip
Either you have rooted and debloated your firmware, or youve modified some of the system files on your devices /root folder.
Solution: Flash firmware zip file to restore firmware to original condition, then retry updating
